Home made Home?

Last night i watched the second episode of Kirsties homemade home on channel 4.

This week it was the turn of the bathroom, and i did have to smile when she bought the yellow suite.

This was the bathroom in our old house. It made us smile lots as it was soooo bright yellow (pictures not very bright!!) and it was always a talking point when we had visitors. Kirstie would have loved it!!!!

Th idea of this programme is great.
Im all for re-using, making over and finding new uses for things otherwise destined for the rubbish tip, but after watching this programme i feel that a lot of us in blogging world have been doing this and appear to be a lot better at it than Kirstie.

Im proud of some of the things that i have made over. My £25 dresser- similar sell for over £1000 in Laura Ashley, my 99p ebay stools that i painted and recovered

I am constantly on the look out for bits and bobs in second hand shops, junk shops and carboot sales. If i need a piece of furniture these days I look on ebay etc and see if there is something that i can make over / reuse, rather than heading to ikea etc.

This week i have painted my wooden garden furniture that was looking very tired. It now has a new lease of life and i will be happy with it for at least this year. Afew years ago i would have thrown it away and bought new.

I also like using my vintage pots and pyrex in daily use. Bargains that i have picked up for as little as a few pence.

Its amazing what you can reuse and makeover to make it desirable again. I am always amazed when i look at other blogs and see the thrifty finds that people have had and then turned them into beautiful pieces!
I have been a little shocked at some of the prices that Kirstie has paid for what she calls 'bargains', but all in all if it encourages people to reuse then it cant be a bad thing. Just hope there are still some bargains left for us long time thrifty girls!!!!!
What are your favourite thrifty finds??
Happy Thrifting! x

I must say, while I agree that some bargains have not really been bargains at all, and that there doesn't seem to be much "home made" going on, I am enjoying Kirsty's programme, just need to take it at face value.
And of course it gives us a chance to "critique" LOL.
My favourite bit this week was the blind in the bathroom, loved it!

My bargain for this week?
Mmmmmm, not really thrifted but our £shop has another shop inside, things are more than £1 but still bargainous. I've been eyeing up a quilt set for DD in there, and bought it today. I took it from the package, and it's 100% cotton, made for the H&M Swedish market. And all for £2.99. Brill!

I've not commented on your blog before, so thought I would say hi!

I agree about the programme - anything over £50 (or even £5) is not much of a bargain to me!
It's interesting to watch, but I would think that if it is the sort of style you are interested in, it kind of states the obvious!

My bargain this week was a Wood's Ware Jasmine (yellow) platter for 39p. That's much more like it!
And the picnic set in your last post - what a bargain. I'm very jealous!

I keep missing Kirsty's programme!
My main worry is that everyone will now be out catching the bargains before me!
You did a lovely job with your dresser - I'm going to do mine soon.

Will have to catch up with Kirstie on the iplayer, but I always love her jolly hockey sticks no nonsense style. Kirstie for Housing Minister, that's my rallying cry! I agree that anything which makes people look afresh at what they've got or can buy 2nd hand must be a good thing. The thing that's most angered me about this recession is the way politicians expect us to get out of it by spend, spend, spending on yet more consumer durables we can't afford. Let's recycle, re-use, craft and make do & mend instead. Oops, appear to have fallen off my soapbox so I'll stop typing for now ...

You have done a lovely job on your stools and dresser. I love Kirsty, I think she is s hoot, but I dont think we are seeing alot of 'handmade' happening. I think some of her 'bargains' are over priced, but then again I dont have Kirstys bank account so cheap to her is expensive for me X

Oh those stools you made over are AMAZING -- looking at the originals, i don't know if I would have envisioned what they could be!

I wish i could see Kirstie's show so badly ... maybe I'll look for some clips on You Tube!
